it all comes down

I did it! I finally got all my holiday decorations down and packed away for next year. And it feels good.

And like I mentioned earlier, it wasn’t terribly stressful or messy because I had my inventory for each box.

BUT before we get started, if you haven’t yet taken pictures of your holiday decor, do it now. Once that’s done, then we begin the process of taking everything down.

Bring out all your holiday decor containers. Have your pen ready, along with your inventory list. If you haven’t made your list, you’ll do that now. You’ll also probably need a rag for dusting (I know I do).

Here’s the process:

#1. Lay a towel on the couch to protect it (just like before).

#2. Take the normal decor out of the holiday decor box.

Put all of these on your couch. Now your box is empty and you can start putting your holiday decor inside. Only take down the decor that matches the inventory for that particular box. If you don’t have your inventory made, make it as you put away your decor. You’ll be sooooo glad you did.

Did I add enough ooooo’s to that “so”? K, point made.

#3. Repeat with all your boxes until all the holiday decor is down.

#4. Make adjustments as you go along.

For example, if you decide you no longer love a certain piece of decor and want to get rid of it, scratch it off your inventory list. OR, if you bought a new piece and want to include it in the box, add it to your inventory list.

#5. Start dusting.

Once your holiday decor is down, all your shelves, tables, etc., should be completely cleared off, because your normal decor is sitting on the couch, waiting patiently to be put back up. If your flat spaces are anything like mine, they’re pretty dusty after the holidays. So dust them off.

Ew. Gross.

After everything is dusted, it’s time to put up your normal decor. If you took pictures of that before you put up your holiday decor, then putting up your normal decor will be super simple. So have at it!

That’s it. Really.

No, really.

If it’s not that simple, then try some of my ideas and see if it helps at all. I really hope it does. There’s enough stress around the holidays and enough people feeling the January blues that putting up and taking down decorations shouldn’t add to it all. It should be enjoyable.

OK, I still have a couple more tips for ya about the holidays, so keep your eyes open.

And then I promise we’ll move on to other things.
