I mentioned before how much I love FlyLady. If you haven’t checked her out, check her out.
She has this thing called the 5 minute Room Rescue.
I love that title.
Today I found myself aimlessly surfing the web. I don’t normally do that, but I did today. I was wasting time because I wasn’t even looking for something specific (hence the word: aimlessly). I started getting sleepy, tired, lethargic, etc. For some reason the 5 minute room rescue popped into my head.
I jumped up, set my timer for 5 minutes and focused on the living room. Just one room. It got my blood pumping and my bum off the couch. It felt good to move.
The living room wasn’t too bad so I started in on the kitchen with the time I had left – about 2 minutes. I was able to clear the kitchen table of breakfast dishes, wipe the table down and put our centerpiece back on it (we take it off when eating because there’s not enough room). Then I put some food away and wiped off another counter.
All in 2 minutes!
My kitchen is still dirty, but guess what? I’ll take care of that in another 5 minutes. Or maybe 10.
The point is, we can do things in little chunks of time. And it’s amazing how much better we feel than doing nothing at all. I guess that’s why it’s called the 5 minute room rescue. Maybe we’re rescuing ourselves at the same time.
Hmmm, food for thought.
